Eco Jobs
Looking for an eco-job?
Having an environmentally friendly job could be the perfect solution if you care about looking after the world around you.
Many eco-jobs focus on the conservation and maintenance of the environment, and will provide you with an outlet for your enthusiasm when it comes to ‘being green’ – so not only will you be helping the planet but you’ll be getting paid for it at the same time!
So what is an eco-job? Well, the Michigan Department of Energy, Labour and Economic Growth define green jobs to “include primary occupations engaged in the production of green-related products or services, and support jobs created by green-related revenue.”
The list attributes the Environmental Defence Fund’s “Green Jobs Guidebook” with defining Green jobs as “jobs that assist in moving the economy towards preventing or adapting to climate change.”
Another definition on the list stipulates that a green job first must be a blue-collar job, and then be in a green business. That one comes from the Economic Policy Institute and Centre for a Sustainable Economy’s “Clean Energy and Jobs: A comprehensive approach to climate change and energy policy.”
But what kind of environmentally-friendly jobs are out there? Well the possibilities are pretty much endless, but to give you a better idea of what might be around, we’ve listed a couple below.
Renewable energy jobs
Renewable energy is energy which comes from natural resources such as the sunlight, wind, rain and tides. Almost 20 percent of the world’s energy usage comes from renewable sources, and with a stronger emphasis on reducing global warming and improving the state of the world’s economy, getting involved in a renewable energy job could be the perfect avenue to explore.
From engineering roles to risk and compliance – renewable energy jobs can cater for people with a very wide range of skills.
Voluntary eco-jobs
So perhaps you don’t want to earn a living from your passion for the planet and instead you’d like to get your volunteering hat on to help out the environment – well this could be a fantastic option to look at as well.
Whether you decide to get involved in an environmental campaign, be it in recycling or
conservation, there are loads of opportunities out there to consider.
